Environmental performance of WPC wood-plastic composites

Wood plastic composites (WPC) are modified thermoplastic materials made from wood or plant fibres filled, reinforced, hot pressed composites, melt extrusion and other processing methods.

The production and use of WPC does not produce volatile substances that are harmful to the surrounding environment, and the material itself can be recycled, making it a new green and environmentally friendly product and an ecologically clean composite material, so the preparation and processing of WPC has great economic and environmental benefits.

In recent years, with the increasing depletion of global resources and rising social awareness of environmental protection, this has placed higher demands on the application of wood and petrochemical products. In this context, wood-plastic composites can not only give full play to the advantages of each component of the material and overcome the disadvantages of low strength and variability of wood and low modulus of elasticity of organic materials, but also make full use of waste wood and plastics to reduce environmental pollution. At present, products that increase the added value of materials are receiving increasing attention. From the point of view of production raw materials, wood-plastic composites can be used in a variety of waste plastics, waste wood and crop residues. Therefore, the development and widespread use of wood-plastic composites can help to slow down the pollution of plastic waste and reduce the environmental pollution caused by the burning of agricultural waste.
